HC Deb 05 March 1924 vol 170 c1391
77. Major MOULTON

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider the advisability of holding an inquiry into the present procedure for the certification and custody of lunatics, and as to whether further safeguards are necessary to prevent sane persons being detained as lunatics?

Mr. WHEATLEY

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by the Prime Minister on Monday to the questions put to him on this subject by the hon. Members for Huntingdon (Mr. Costello), Islington (Mr. Comyns Carr), and Barnard Castle (Mr. Turner-Samuels).

Major MOULTON

Does the right hon. Gentleman propose to wait a long time for that inquiry?

Mr. WHEATLEY

I can assure the House there will be no undue or unnecessary delay.
