HC Deb 05 March 1924 vol 170 cc1379-80
56. Mr. T. JOHNSTON

asked the Prime Minister if, in his letter to M. Poincaré of 21st February, he is aware that the word England is used on several occasions when it can be legitimately assumed from the context that Britain is meant; and if he will assure the House that in all diplomatic correspondence on behalf of the British people care will be taken that the inclusive term British is used, and not the sectional term English?

The PRIME MINISTER

I apologise to my hon. Friends from Scotland. I committed a grave error which I shall try not to repeat.
