HC Deb 30 June 1924 vol 175 cc905-6
14. Mr. WALLHEAD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether His Majesty's Government contemplates the taking of any steps to improve within a reasonable period the pay, prospects, and general conditions of the provincial and subordinate services in India on lines similar to those recommended by the Lee Commission for the superior civil services in India?

Mr. RICHARDS

As my hon. Friend is aware, no decision will be taken on the Lee Commission Report until after the September session of the Legislative Assembly. The question of extending any of the recommendations to provincial services will be dealt with at the earliest practicable date in consultation with the local governments, who are the authorities primarily concerned.

Sir C. YATE

May I ask what that date will be?

Mr. WARDLAW MILNE

Is it the intention of the Government of India to set up a Commission similar to the Lee Commission?

Mr. RICHARDS

I cannot answer that question at the present moment.
