§ 30. Mr. BAKERasked the President of the Board of. Education whether he is now able to announce the date on which the building of a new school in the St. Philip's Marsh area, Bristol, will be commenced; whether he is aware that the site was purchased in 1913, and that there has been an urgent necessity for increased accommodation during the whole of the intervening period; and whether, having regard to the bad conditions under which the teachers and scholars are working, he will do everything possible to expedite the commencement of work on the new school?
§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Trevelyan)The Board have long been aware of the unsatisfactory conditions in the area in question. Plans both for the new infants' school and for the re-arrangement and improvement of the present school have been submitted, but require further consideration by the authority and the managers. I shall continue to do everything possible to expedite the commencement of work on the new school.
