OLIVERasked the Minister of Labour the principle adopted by his Department when men are transferred from one Employment Exchange to an Employment Exchange in another district for employment on relief work where different rates of pay are in operation; and what rate should be paid, the rate of the district from which the men are transferred or the rate in the district in which they are employed?
§ Mr. T. SHAWThe rates of pay are not fixed by my Department, but by the local authority in accordance with the terms of the grant made through the Unemployment Grants Committee or other grant-making Department. The type of case mentioned, which is not of frequent occurrence, would be specially examined by the grant-making authority.
