HC Deb 23 June 1924 vol 175 cc22-3
34. Sir G. BERRY

asked the Prime Minister, in view of the fact that the matter has not always received adequate attention in the past, if he will see that any acquisition of land by the Government for afforestation in the West Highlands of Scotland shall be made with due regard to eventual transport facilities for the removal of timber?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that the Forestry Commissioners, when acquiring land, give adequate attention to transport facilities for the removal of timber. Reports on areas recommended for acquisition are compiled on this basis, and before approving an area for acquisition the Commissioners satisfy themselves that economic exploitation will be possible.
