§ Mr. HARTSHORNExperiments are in progress to test the possibility of establishing a commercial telephone service between England and the United States of America, and the progress made is described in detail in an official notice recently issued to the Press, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy. With regard to the last paragraph of the question, spasmodic communication has been achieved over extremely long distances, but the aim of the experiments which are now being conducted is to devise a system which would give a reliable and continuous service.
