HC Deb 17 June 1924 vol 174 cc1931-2
27. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether his attention has been called to the international exhibition and sample fair to be held in Riga from 20th July to 3rd August: and whether, in view of the importance of developing to the utmost British trade with the new Baltic Republics, he can assure the House that every possible step is being taken to inform British firms of this exhibition, and to induce them to take advantage of the opportunity afforded for furthering trade relations with these countries?

Mr. LUNN (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on the 3rd June to the hon. Member for Moseley on the same subject.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that the Latvian Republic is very anxious to trade with this country, as are the other Baltic Republics, and the exchange is very good in each of those countries?

Mr. REMER

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that he gave no answer whatever to the question of the hon. Member for Moseley, as far as I understand, and will he take steps to see that the matter is really seriously considered?

Mr. LUNN

I think if the hon. Member looks at my answer he will see that I gave a very definite answer as to what has been done by my Department to make known this exhibition to manufacturers in the country and to furnish details, which have appeared in the Board of Trade Journal on two separate occasions.

Mr. REMER

Is the hon. Gentleman aware of the very small circulation of the Board of Trade Journal, and will he take steps to see that wider publicity is given?
