HC Deb 17 June 1924 vol 174 c1942
19. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Transport whether any schemes of railway construction have been brought to his notice under which the companies are willing to build in return for a guaranteed interest or assisted rate of interest until the lines pay; what in those cases has been the policy of his Department; and whether, if such cases exist, he will give the details?

Mr. GOSLING

While I am not aware of any actual cases in which a railway company has suggested the precise form of financial assistance to which the hon. Member refers, I would remind him that the Trade Facilities Acts, the operation of which has recently been extended, are open to railway companies, and some important railway projects have already attracted guarantees under their provisions.
