asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that the-rates of pay of Government employés at Shoeburyness are: on Royal Engineer works, labourers 41s. per week, top-rate stokers 41s. 6d. per week, engine drivers. 51s 6d. per week, and craftsmen 63s. per week; in the experimental department 41s, per week for labourers; in the barrack department, orderlies 39s. 8d. per week, and cooks 27s. 7d. per week with rations; if he has received a deputation from the men concerned in respect to. advances upon these rates; if so, if he has yet given consideration to their claims; and with what result?

I have recently received a deputation regarding the rates of pay of some of the classes of employés referred to by the hon. Member, but I am not yet in a position to give a decision upon the subject.
