HC Deb 30 July 1924 vol 176 c2058
58. Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of ex-service men who have been appointed to the teaching staff of elementary schools from the various training schemes since their inauguration?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Trevelyan)

On the 30th September, 1928, the latest date for which I possess complete information, 4,878 ex-service men, trained under the Board's scheme for the higher education of ex-service students, had obtained teaching appointments in the schools. Nine hundred and thirty-two ex-service men trained under schemes promoted by the Ministry of Labour were known to have obtained teaching employment by the 16th July last. These figures relate to schools of all types in England and Wales.
