§ 14. Mr. LANSBURYasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is now in a position Lo state whether it is his intention to appoint a commission or committee to hold a public inquiry into the case of Lieutenant C. H. Glen-dinning?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Walsh)I have given this matter the personal consideration which I promised in the House on 20th May. The case has been examined by the Army Council, and I have now made my Report to His Majesty, under Section 42 of the Army Act.
§ Mr. LANSBURYWill the right hon. Gentleman tell us exactly what that means? Is there going to be an inquiry?
§ Mr. WALSHI stated to my hon. Friend months ago, in answer to a special request, that I would give the matter my own personal consideration. Not only did I make that announcement, but I am bound, under the law of the land, to act under Section 42 of the Army 1871 Act. That was the procedure which I promised to the House. That procedure I have adopted. I am bound to make a Report to His Majesty, and I must wait for His Majesty's decision before I can take any further action.
§ Mr. LANSBURYThat is all right. We can wait and see.
