§ 44. Mr. ROBERT WILSON
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that some of the wholesale grocery firms are quoting prices for sweetened condensed milk which do not allow for the recent reduction of duty; and whether, if names and particulars are submitted, he will take action in the matter?
§ Mr. SNOWDEN
I have no information in the sense indicated in the first part of the question. I would remind my hon. Friend that there is no power in law to compel traders to reduce prices when duties are lowered, but generally speaking, the reduction in the Sugar Duty has been passed on to the consumer.
