HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 c1097
19. Mr. WELLS

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he proposes to bring forward a scheme to encourage cadet corps in secondary schools, so that pupils may have the opportunity of discovering if they have a taste or capacity for a military career and he may thereby obtain suitable applicants to meet the present shortage of officers?

Mr. LAWSON

Many such schools have established, for the purposes which the hon. Member has in mind, either cadet corps or contingents of the Officers? Training Corps, and these organisations are already recognised. I regret, however, that in the present state of public finance I cannot see my way to extend the existing arrangements.
