asked the Prime Minister whether he is prepared to set up a commission, with powers to call for papers, and to take evidence on oath, to inquire into the circumstances in which it has been the practice in recent years to make recommendations for honours

The PRIME MINISTER

The recommendations of the Royal Commission on Honours made in 1922 are now in operation, and thus far have apparently worked with satisfaction.

Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been called to a statement made by the trustees of the estate of the last Sir John Stewart that in December, 1920, a sum of £50,000 was paid—
