§ 23. Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLANDasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the total sum of money which belongs to or might be claimed as belonging to the Soviet Government which is in this country and which is subject to Article X of the Anglo-Russian Trade Agreement of 1921.
§ The PRIME MINISTERThe total amount of the funds or other property of the late Imperial and Provisional Russian Governments in the United Kingdom (which are subject to Article X of the Russian Trade Agreement) depends to a large extent on the amount of the balances in the name of the late Russian Government in the books of private 1756 British banks. While I have no precise information on these private banking transactions, I believe that the total amount is not likely to exceed £4,000,000, against which there are considerable claims pending.
