§ 78. Mr. E. BROWNasked the Minister of Health whether, for the purposes of the Housing (Financial Provisions) Bill, 1924, inmates of Poor Law institutions, asylums, and prisons are to be reckoned as part of the agricultural parishes' population?
§ Mr. WHEATLEYIt is proposed that the population of the parish according to the last published Census Return of the Registrar-General should be taken for the purpose of Clause 2 (2) of the Housing (Financial Provisions) Bill, 1924.
§ Mr. BROWNIs the right hon. Gentleman not aware that the inmates of these institutions were regarded as part of the population of the parishes, and that that prevents many of those villages getting the additional £;3 10s. subsidy for the purpose of erecting houses? Is it fair that these parishes, with these adventitious additions of population, should be included in the calculation?
§ Mr. WHEATLEYI shall get all the information available, and shall consider that point.
§ Mr. BROWNIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that in the parish of Axminster, in Devon, in the County Asylum there are 1,341 inmates, and they will be reckoned as part of the agricultural parish, and this will prevent the parish getting the extra £3 10s. subsidy?
§ Mr. WHEATLEYI will consider that point.
