HC Deb 02 July 1924 vol 175 c1327
78. Mr. SCRYMGEOUR

asked the Minister of Health whether, having remitted for investigation by his Department the matter of serious danger to infant life and welfare arising from the widespread sale of proprietary and patent foods, consisting principally of starch, he is now prepared to take steps enabling local authorities to exercise control over the sale of unsuitable and unwholesome preparations advertised as infants' food?

Mr. WHEATLEY

The investigations are still proceeding, and I am not at present in a position to add anything to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Penrith (Mr. Dixey) on the 9th April last.

Mr. SCRYMGEOUR

As the right hon. Gentleman had in April last the investigation then mentioned by him, has he since considered the decision as to what should be done? Is he not now prepared to take the necessary action?

Mr. WHEATLEY

My Department has not yet completed its investigation, but, as soon as it has, I will consider what steps should be taken.
