HC Deb 21 January 1924 vol 169 c531
Mr. H. H. SPENCER

(by Private Notice) asked the Prime Minister whether he has made, or will make, arrangements that, during the continuance of the railway dispute, this House shall remain sitting.

The PRIME MINISTER

If, at the close of the Debate to-day, the House accepted a Motion for adjournment, the authority exists to call the House together on a notice of not less than six days. I would also remind the hon. Member that in the event of a Proclamation being made under the Emergency Powers Act, the House must be called together within five days of the issue of the Proclamation.

Mr. PERCY HARRIS

Does the Prime Minister think it desirable to leave the country in the hands of bureaucracy and officials with the possibility of a new Government being in process of formation, and therefore not being in office?

The PRIME MINISTER

The matter will be in the hands of whatever Government the hon. Member and his friends put in power.

Mr. PRINGLE

It will not be you, that is certain.

An HON. MEMBER

Nor you.
