HC Deb 17 January 1924 vol 169 c262
45. Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the considerable expenditure of lime and money involved in the present method of Members being sworn in after a General Election, he will consider the possibility of Members in future taking the Oath before their returning officers immediately after their election?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

No, Sir, I do not think that this proposal is desirable or practicable. As the hon. Member was informed in reply to a similar question on the 5th December, 1022, the arrangements (hen made for the swearing-in of Members worked admirably and with the minimum of inconvenience to Members themselves. I understand that the arrangements made this time were equally satisfactory.
