HC Deb 17 January 1924 vol 169 cc259-60
27. Mr. HANNON

asked the Home Secretary whether any restrictions are at present in force to prevent the entrance of aliens into this country for employment in non-trades union positions such as shop assistants; and whether, in view of the large number of British men and women at present unemployed, he will consider the advisability of prohibiting the entrance of such aliens?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Under the Aliens Order now in force an alien coming to this country to enter the service of an employer here must be furnished with a permit issued to the employer by the Ministry of Labour. Any such alien who does not produce a permit is refused leave to land.
