HC Deb 20 February 1924 vol 169 cc1745-6
54. Major HORE-BELISHA

asked the Prime Minister whether the statement made by him to a correspondent during the General Election, to the effect that, should any attempt be made to lower the pay of the fighting services, it would be met with the uncompromising opposition of the Labour party, correctly represents the policy of the Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

I shall forget no pledge I made during the Election.

Major HORE-BELISHA

May I take it that the right hon. Gentleman admits that the report is correct?

Sir G. DOYLE

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman is prepared to carry out all the pledges he made during the time of the Election?

The PRIME MINISTER

That is a mere repetition of the question.

Major HORE-BELISHA

May I have an answer to my question as to whether the right hon. Gentleman admits that the report is correct?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. and gallant Member must take the answer as it given.
