HC Deb 18 February 1924 vol 169 c1298
37. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give an undertaking that, before embarking on any action in regard to the recommendations made by the Anderson Committee in reference to the pay of the public services, he will give an opportunity to the House for a full discussion?

The PRIME MINISTER

The House will no doubt have ample opportunity of criticising in Supply any action the Government may take but I do not think that it would be reasonable to limit the freedom of action of the Government by giving so extensive a pledge as that suggested.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

In determining the action of the Government, will the right hon. Gentleman take into account the promises which he is reported to have made during the General Election that any proposal made to reduce the pay of the fighting Services would meet with the uncompromising hostility of the Labour patty?
