HC Deb 14 February 1924 vol 169 c1010
67. Mr. H. MORRISON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the late Government ceased last year to provide State scholarships for students coming from State-aided schools to the university; and whether he will he prepared to renew them?

Mr. TREVELYAN

I propose to renew the State scholarships for students from State-aided schools to the same extent as formerly. I hope to address a communication very shortly to the schools and the examining bodies with reference to the award of scholarships in the coming financial year.

Mr. MORRISON

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the question of scholarships from the secondary schools in counties where at present there is no scholarship to take a promising boy to a university?

Mr. TREVELYAN

These scholarships are open to children from all counties.

Mrs. WINTRINGHAM

How soon will this change take place?

Mr. TREVELYAN

As soon as possible.
