HC Deb 14 February 1924 vol 169 c1002
52. Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

asked the Prime Minister whether it is intended to appoint a Solicitor-General for Scotland; and, if so, when he expects to be in a position to make an announcement thereon?

Mr. CLYNES

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend is giving this matter his attention, and hopes to announce the appointment within the next two or three days.

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

Will the Prime Minister have regard to the considerations detailed in Lord Clyde's Memorandum regarding this appointment, as well as that of the Lord Advocate?

Mr. CLYNES

I will put this question to the Prime Minister.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the Solicitor-General will have a seat in this House, and has his attention been drawn to the fact that if neither the Lord Advocate nor the Solicitor-General for Scotland has a seat in this House the Scottish Members and the Scottish Grand Committee will be deprived of the legal advice to which they are entitled?

Mr. KIRKWOOD

You never got any legal advice from them anyway.

Mr. CLYNES

I cannot add anything to what. I have said.
