Mr. PETOasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has obtained any information as to the Mukhtar of Lubban Rantis in the Ramleh sub-district of Palestine, having been imprisoned without trial, indictment, or any legal proceedings; whether he is aware that at the end of 11 days' imprisonment, during which he was unable to obtain any information as to the cause of his imprisonment, he was ordered to leave the prison and, on his return to his village, found that he had been dismissed from his office, against the wishes of the village inhabitants; and whether he can inform the House as to the reason for these proceedings?
