HC Deb 21 March 1923 vol 161 c2545
43. Mr. MOSLEY

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that no Employment Exchange exists in Hanwell and that unemployed persons are obliged to walk to either Southall or Acton in order to register; and whether he will consider the question of opening an Exchange in Hanwell?

Sir M. BARLOW

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In the interests of economy it is necessary to restrict the number of branch offices, and I do not think I should be justified in opening an Exchange at Hanwell under present conditions.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Is it not a fact that these unemployed people are received with exceptional courtesy in Acton?
