HC Deb 15 March 1923 vol 161 cc1759-60
40. Sir A. HOLBROOK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has received any representation on behalf of off-licence holders that people of small weans are subjected to great injustice under the present regulation that no smaller quantity than a full bottle of spirits can be purchased; and whether he will consider amendment of regulation, so as to enable purchasers to obtain a half-bottle of spirits, if required, to be held in case of sickness?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am aware that representations have been made from time to time in the sense mentioned by my hon. and gallant Friend, but I am unable to adopt his suggestion, which would involve an alteration of the law.
