HC Deb 15 March 1923 vol 161 c1739
6. Mr. ERNEST EVANS

asked the Minister of Pensions what it would cost to continue for another year the bonus on need pensions which it is proposed to withdraw at the end of the present financial year?

Major TRYON

The concession as regards certain need pensions which fell to be reduced last year was of a purely temporary nature made with the object of enabling the pensioners affected gradually to adjust themselves to altered circumstances, and had no relation to a general bonus based on the cost of living. I have no authority to continue a temporary concession of that nature made in favour of a limited section and for a particular purpose, the cost of which for another 12 months would amount to £70,000.

18. Mr. CLARRY

asked the Minister of Pensions if, in cases where need pensions are reduced, he will give instructions that the pensioner be informed of the reasons for the reduction at the time notice is given of such reduction?

Major TRYON

I shall be glad to consider very carefully the hon. Member's suggestion and, if I find it practicable, to give effect to it.
