HC Deb 08 March 1923 vol 161 cc691-2
23. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he is prepared to grant to the South-West Ham branch of the British Legion representation of disabled men on the West Ham Local Advisory Committee, because there are a number of disabled men residing in the southern part of the borough; and if he will take action in the matter?

Major TRYON

In accordance with the provisions of Section 1 (3) of the War Pensions Act, 1921, four representatives of disabled men have been appointed to serve on the West Ham War Pensions Committee. These appointments were made after consultation with, and with the agreement of, the headquarters of the British Legion.

Mr. THORNE

Are the areas carved out in geographical divisions, and is consideration given to the question of the kind of men residing in those geographical divisions?

Major TRYON

As far as possible we try to represent all the different portions of the country that come within an area, but the matter is also complicated by the varying interests of voluntary workers. ex-service men, and so on.
