Mr. REYNOLDSasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that no local elections are fought on the spring register and General Elections have lately been fought on the autumn register, he will consider the advisability of reverting to the old system of the preparation and publication of one register of voters each year instead of two, especially as this would mean a saving of approximately £1,000,000?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANThe question has already been very fully considered, and as I have stated previously the Government have decided not to take any steps in the matter. So far from the change effecting a saving of £1,000,000, as my hon. Friend suggests, the total saving, it is estimated, would not exceed £250,000 a year and might be less.
