§ 44. Mr. HILLasked the President of the Board of Education how many teachers will have completed their college training this month; how many fully-certificated teachers will now be unemployed; and will he agree that in future only certificated teachers shall be engaged?
§ Lord EUSTACE PERCY (for Mr. Edward Wood)The number of students in training colleges who will complete 697 their course of training this month is approximately 7,680. With regard to the second part of the question, my right hon. Friend regrets he has no information; and he is not prepared to make the requirement suggested in the third part.
§ Mr. R. DAVIESIs the Noble Lord aware that local education authorities are employing uncertificated teachers, while thousands of certified teachers are unemployed; will he see that the local authorities are encouraged to do the right thing in this connection?
§ Lord E. PERCYI am perfectly aware of the fact that this subject has been frequently debated in this House, and I do not think this is the occasion for a further debate.
§ Mr. MORGAN JONESWhat steps have the Board of Education taken to absorb these teachers?
§ Lord E. PERCYThat is only another way of putting a question which, as I say, has been frequently debated. [HON. MEMBERS: "Answer!"]
