§ 47. Mr. WALLHEADasked the Prime Minister whether he is prepared to propose the admission of Abyssinia to the League of Nations as a sovereign State in order that the League may bring its full influence to bear with that State for the purpose of ending the slave-holding system which exists in Abyssinia?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThere is no provision in the Covenant for a State being proposed as a member of the League by another State. It is for any State seeking admission to apply for membership itself. The answer is therefore in the negative.
§ Captain BERKELEYWill the British Government suggest to Abyssinia that she should apply for membership?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI think that we must wait and see.
