HC Deb 16 July 1923 vol 166 cc1871-2
55. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the waste of food caused by the dockers' strike and the fact that this movement is now disowned by the union leaders as well as by the unofficial leaders, he will take whatever steps be necessary to facilitate the landing of perishable food in the interests more especially of the poorer classes, who are prejudiced both by shortage of supply and by rising prices?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

I have been asked to reply. I have no information confirming the suggestion in the last part of the question, but the situation is being carefully watched.
