HC Deb 05 July 1923 vol 166 c611
53. Captain BENN

asked the Prime Minister whether he will publish the report, when received, of the Interdepartmental Committee which is considering the question of intoxicating liquors in British ships visiting American ports?

The PRIME MINISTER

This Committee is acting in an advisory capacity only, and it would not, in the circumstances, be in accordance with usual practice to publish any report which it may draw up. The Committee is still sitting.

Captain BENN

Is it not possible to have some particulars of the efforts being made by our Government to prevent the smuggling of liquor into the United States, which were referred to in another place by the Secretary of State?

The PRIME MINISTER

I will consider that question. I cannot answer it now.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is that Committee entitled to inquire into the smuggling going on from the various islands?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am not aware of that.
