HC Deb 05 July 1923 vol 166 cc625-6
7. Lieut.-Colonel HILDER

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that fraudulent domestic servants' agencies which are prosecuted within the London County Council area change their offices to towns outside that area, and are then able to pursue their fraudulent practices with impunity; and whether he will take steps to see that the Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1907, Section 87, providing for the registration of domestic servants' agencies, is effectively administered by the local authorities generally throughout the country?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I have no information on the first part of the question. As regards the second part, Section 85 (not 87) of the Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1907, is an adoptive provision which I can only put in force in any area on application by the local authority. When it has been put in force, the responsibility for its administration rests with the local authority. I have no power to interfere in the manner suggested.
