HC Deb 04 July 1923 vol 166 c424
39. Mr. EDE

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that in the Report of the Surrey county medical officer of health for 1922 it is stated on page 32 that almost all the houses in Bath Road and Rock Terrace, Mitcham, are let out to two or three families; and can he say what steps are being taken to remedy that state of affairs?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The Mitcham Urban District Council completed 304 houses under the previous housing scheme, and I understand that they have under consideration the question of further housing provision under the Bill which is now before Parliament. I may add that a return made in March last shows that during the previous five and a half months 134 houses, of an annual value of under £35, had been built by private enterprise, 55 houses containing not more than five rooms were under construction, and plans had been approved for 112 houses of the same type during the period referred to.
