HC Deb 04 July 1923 vol 166 c434
45. Lieut. - Colonel Sir ARTHUR CHURCHMAN

asked the Prime Minister whether he is yet in a position to state the attitude of the Government towards the recommendations made in the two interim Reports of the Departmental Committee on the Distribution and Prices of Agricultural Produce; and whether he proposes to allow a day for their discussion in the autumn?

The PRIME MINISTER

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The recommendations of the Departmental Committee referred to in their first two interim Reports are receiving the active consideration of the Government, and with regard to the earlier Report on milk and milk products, I may mention that the Government have already decided to give increased assistance for the encouragement and expansion of co-operative dairy schools, milk depots and cheese factories, while the President of the Board of Trade, the Minister of Agriculture, and the Secretary for Scotland are calling a conference of representatives of the milk trade to discuss other recommendations of the Committee. With regard to the last part of the question, as there are still two more Reports to be issued, I think it would be premature at this stage to consider the grant of a day for the discussion of the recommendations of this Committee.
