HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 c1445
15. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in view of the favourable decision promulgated in Admiralty Fleet Order No. 1703, in answer to request No. 12 of the 1922 Welfare Committee, he will take steps to inaugurate or establish a pension scheme for widows and dependants of naval ratings on a contributory basis; and whether this House will have an opportunity of discussing any proposed scheme with a view to considering the desirability of granting some assistance thereto from the public funds?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Major Boyd-Carpenter)

With regard to the first part of the question, I have nothing to add to the reply given on the 18th July to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for North Portsmouth (Sir B. Falle). With regard to the second part of the question, it would be premature to give any undertaking until a scheme has actually been prepared.
