HC Deb 27 April 1923 vol 163 cc937-8

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That this House do now adjourn."—[Colonel Leslie Wilson.]

Mr. J. RAMSAY MacDONALD

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury what will be the business on Monday? Some questions were raised about the programme announced yesterday by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Colonel Leslie Wilson)

I must apologise to my hon. Friend and to the House for the absence of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who is unavoidably detained. After what my hon. Friend the Leader of the Opposition said, and the opinions expressed in the House, conversations took place through the usual channels, in order to give greater facilities for discussing the Financial Resolution of the Housing Bill both in Committee and on Report. It has been suggested, and the Government have agreed, that on Monday next we shall take as first Order the Local Authorites (Emergency Provisions) Bill, Report and Third Reading; then immediately proceed, as Second Order, to the Committee stage of the Financial Resolution of the Housing Bill; and, if time permit, we shall take the Second Reading of the Increase of Rents and Mortgage Interest Restrictions (Continuance) Bill.

On Tuesday, we shall not take the Report stage of the Housing Bill Financial Resolution, but only the Navy Estimates.

On Wednesday, as First Order, if we do not get it on Monday, which is rather unlikely, we shall take the Increase of Rents and Mortgage Interest Restrictions (Continuance) Bill, as First Order, and then the Report stage of the Financial Resolution of the Housing Bill.

On Thursday, as before announced, we shall take the Rent Restrictions (Notices of Increase) Bill, Report and Third heading.

Adjourned accordingly at Ten Minutes after Four o'Clock till Monday next (30th April).
