HC Deb 24 April 1923 vol 163 cc265-6
35. Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Under-Secretary to the Scottish Board of Health whether the Secretary for Scotland is going to appoint a Committee to consider the question of trawling, legal and illegal, in Scotland?

Captain ELLIOT

My Noble Friend does not, as at present advised, contemplate the institution of a special inquiry of the nature suggested, but, if a case is presented for inquiry into any aspect of the question, he would be prepared to consider it.

Mr. MACPHERSON

Is it not a fact that Scottish Members of this House have presented case after case for inquiry? In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply I have just received, I beg to give notice that I will raise this question on the first available opportunity.

Mr. HARMSWORTH

Does the hon. and gallant Gentleman consider it just that German trawlers should be allowed to fish in these areas to the detriment of the English trawlers who are not allowed in these areas?
