HC Deb 23 April 1923 vol 163 cc29-30
53. Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Prime Minister what action the Government proposes to take on the Viscount Haldane Commission Report on the Scottish Church Endowments; whether and when a Bill is to be introduced; and, if so, whether it will be introduced in this House or in another place?

Captain ELLIOT (Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Heath, Scotland)

I have been asked to reply to this question. Until the General Assemblies of the Churches in Scotland have had an opportunity of considering the recommendations in the Report, the Government will not be in a position to reach a decision upon any of the points mentioned by my right hon. and learned Friend.

Mr. MACPHERSON

In the event of the Assemblies coming to a conclusion on this subject, will the Government introduce a Bill in this House, and give the Scottish Standing Committee an opportunity of discussing it?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a hypothetical question.
