HC Deb 17 April 1923 vol 162 c1872
56. Mr. OLIVER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can give the number of persons and the amount surrendered by old age pensioners, during the past year, who have forfeited their pensions in consequence of becoming inmates of workhouses or other Poor Law institutions?

Major BOYD-CARPENTER

There is no available information as to the number of old age pensions withdrawn on account of the receipt of disqualifying Poor Law relief, but during the year ended 31st March, 1922, the number of claims to pensions disallowed and the number of pensions withdrawn on that account in Great Britain, taken together, were 13,459. The amount of old age pension represented thereby cannot be given.
