HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 cc1292-3
41. Mr. R. RICHARDSON

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will state the number of teachers dismissed from grant-aid elementary and secondary schools. respectively, in England and Wales since July, 1921?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Edward Wood)

I regret that I do not possess the information asked for by the hon. Member.

Mr. RICHARDSON

Cannot the right hon. Gentleman ask for the information, which is easily obtainable from the authorities?

Mr. WOOD

I should he glad enough to have it, but my hon. Friend will realise that it would impose considerable expense upon local authorities. It is a Return which they are not bound to submit to me. I cannot impose expense on them at present.

Mr. RICHARDSON

Surely there is a record kept of the teachers who have been dismissed by the authorities, and it would simply be a matter of question and answer.
