HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 c1291
61. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the British official figures of taxation, direct and indirect, give £16 12s. per head for Great Britain, £5 12s. 7d. for France, and £5 11s. 10d. for federal taxes of the United States; whether the National Industrial Conference Board in the United States gave figures based upon pre-War exchange as 46 dollars per head for Great Britain, 25 dollars in France, and 41 dollars in the United States; and whether he will take steps to ask our ambassador in Washington to circulate the correct figures?

Major BOYD-CARPENTER

I have no knowledge of the American figures or of the basis on which they are arrived at; but I do not think it necessary to take any steps in the matter.
