HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 c1287
36. Mr. R. YOUNG

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now make a statement concerning the inquiry held to investigate the circumstances, etc., in which three boys were shot at Cushendall, County Antrim, last June; and, if so, what action is to be taken in the matter?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave yesterday to a question on this subject addressed to me by the hon. Member for the Scotland Division of Liverpool.

Mr. YOUNG

Can the right hon. Gentleman explain why, when the inquiry was held, some of the witnesses were cross-examined by the Chief Crown Solicitor and by the Deputy Inspector-General of the Constabulary?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

That is a question for the Government of Northern Ireland.

Mr. T. P. O'CONNOR

In view of the anxiety of the relatives of these poor men, whom, I believe, the report shows to have been brutally massacred, will the right hon. Gentleman press the Government of Northern Ireland to consent to the publication of the report?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I do not think that I can add anything to the answer which I have given The Government of Northern Ireland are fully aware of all the circumstances, and the question can be addressed to them.

Mr. O'CONNOR

Is the report, which I understand says that these men were murdered, to be hushed up, and are neither the relatives nor the public to be allowed to know anything about it?
