HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 cc1299-300
50. Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Prime Minister if his attention has been drawn to the reports of the Cabinet proceedings disclosed in the book entitled "The World Crisis, 1911–14," by the right hon. Winston Churchill, just published; will he have these references carefully examined to see how far they constitute a breach of the Official Secrets Act; and, if their publication is deemed to be prejudicial to the public interest, will he take such steps as will deter similar disclosures in the future?

Mr. BALDWIN

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which the Prime Minister gave on the 19th March last, in reply to a question by the hon. and gallant Member for Kincardine and Western.

Mr. THOMSON

Arising out of the more serious breach that has occurred, does the right hon. Gentleman consider that the reply he then gave is adequate protection against a similar breach of Cabinet etiquette in future?

Captain ARTHUR EVANS

Is it not a fact that the right hon. Gentleman in question has disclosed no official secrets which have not already appeared in the "Official History of the War "?
