HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 c1546
33. Captain W. BENN

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether his attention has been called to the resolution of the Federation of British Industries asking for the appointment of some Committee to continue the work of the Geddes Committee; and whether he would favourably consider the appointment of a Committee of this House for the purpose?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not think a Committee of the House is the best machinery for this particular work; but the Chancellor of the Exchequer is considering what steps are likely to be most effective to accelerate the reduction of expenditure.

Captain BENN

Does the Government propose to appoint some extra Parliamentary Committee of the Geddes type, with a view to carrying on the work?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am not in a position to make any proposal at present. The Chancellor of the Exchequer is considering the matter.
