HC Deb 04 May 1922 vol 153 cc1546-7
35. Mr. R. YOUNG

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of War Stock which has been surrendered to the Government by individuals and firms to relieve the financial strain upon the country, and on what amount of such stock has the Treasury been asked to cancel the interest, and for how long?

Mr. H. YOUNG

The total nominal amount of the holdings of war issues voluntarily surrendered to the State is £427,332 1s. 8d. Dividends surrendered amount to £49,550. It would not be possible without much labour to give particulars of the varying periods during which interest was foregone by holders. At the present time the only stocks on which dividends are regularly received are £10,850 5 per cent. War Stock and £30,000 4 per cent. National War Bonds.
