HC Deb 13 March 1922 vol 151 c1742
30. Lord R. CECIL

asked the Prime Minister whether he can state the policy of the Government with regard to Eastern Galicia; and what steps have recently been taken to put an end to the anomalous international position of that country?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Cecil Harmsworth)

His Majesty's Government have no separate responsibility in respect of this problem, and I would refer my Noble Friend to the replies returned to him, with regard to the policy pursued, on the 6th July and the 3rd November last.

Lord R. CECIL

Whether there is any separate responsibility among the Allies or not, I presume that the Government have a policy and I ask them what that policy is?

Colonel WEDGWOOD

May we find out from the right hon. Gentleman whether the Government take any sort of interest in the question of the autonomy of Eastern Galicia and whether they are taking any steps at Warsaw to facilitate that autonomy?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

My hon. and gallant Friend knows that the Government take the greatest interest in the matter.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Are you taking any steps in the matter at Warsaw?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

As we cannot ask questions in other Diets and Parliaments, surely we can ask questions in this Parliament as to what is the policy of the Government?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is exactly what the Noble Lord asked.
